iSyndica past, present & future

I’m very glad to publish a guest post written by Hugo Angelmar from iSyndica, “the man you want to complain to if something’s not working”  :-)

2009 has been a fun year for iSyndica. Think of it as jumping into the pool at 6 in the morning during the Winter. It’s -20 degrees outside and still dark. You don’t stay still for long and quickly start swimming because everything around tells you to.

We’ve moved from doing just photography, to recently introducing audio, our now fourth category. An interesting anecdote is that, unlike previous categories, we’ve had people inquire about audio – both users and agencies – before launching it. This was something to cheer about. People are taking notice of what we are building and how it can apply to a range of content – ringtones, virtual gifts, ads, ebooks etc. But our hearts remain with visual content, and we’ve been busy improving iSyndica’s features with the introduction of custom watermarks and enabling metadata export. A lot of work was also done behind the scene by our great team. Going from 10 users to a few thousands is not an easy task, and it’s certainly required updates to our platform.

For 2010, we are hoping some of you will help build great applications using iSyndica. iStockPhoto has Deepmeta, an iPhoto plug-in and iStockCharts. We have released our API for testing, to let people create the same type of software for iSyndica. The best part is that it can work with all the agencies and content iSyndica supports; not just one. Same goes with analytics. You can easily build an application that will let you get your stats on your cellphone whenever, wherever.

We are also starting to showcase our community of artists featuring iSyndica users weekly in our blog. So far we have published posts about photographers Tyler Olson and Holger Mette, with many more coming. If you are interested, definitely get in touch with us. Our blog is also a great resource for tutorials and news.

Finally, what’s next for iSyndica if you are a photographer, videographer or illustrator? Hopefully, a lot of good surprises. We take our ideas from you and iterate until we can get it just right. I could share more but it would just spoil the surprise.
