iStockphoto what’s coming up in the next year
Front Page Blog: 2009: The year in review and a look at the future
from the iStockphoto’s forum, Kelly Thompson (iStockphoto’s COO), original thread available here: 2009 The Year in Review and a Look at the Future
My personal highlights:
We point to the 125,000 new members iStock adds each month. 10 years ago when we started, there were barely that many stock buyers in North America, let alone added to one company in a month.
We also greatly expanded the crossover program with Getty Images in 2009, and now have 7,000 images in the iStock Exclusive collection on gettyimages.com. And they’re selling well.
Getty Images will be launching a new subscription site (an updated Jupiter Images Unlimited) early in 2010 and iStock will be a significant part of it.
……
Beginning on January 7, 2010, our library will be split into the following collections:
The main collection
iStock Exclusive
We will be increasing the prices of our Exclusive files in order to further curate our collection and to reward and motivate our most loyal artists.
Exclusive Plus
We’ll be giving a chance to self-curate and select up to 20% of their collection to be included in an Exclusive Plus collection… (later on in 2010)… Exclusive Plus files will be priced somewhere between Exclusive and Vetta.Future canister levels
…For the first time ever we will raise the canister levels for photo, vector and flash contributors…
Base: 1 – 499
Bronze: 500 – 4,999
Silver: 5,000 – 19,999
Gold: 20,000 – 49,999
Diamond: 50,000 – 399,999
Black Diamond: 400,000 +

Hi there! I have been reading the IS forum and I agree with a lot of contributors, there are no advantages for contributors, for IS I can see a few… Will the prices of our photos ever stop decreasing?? Of course there are others who agree with everything the agencies come up with…!
cheers and have a nice December Roberto!
Hi Luis… prices are in a very dynamic range and iStock seems to push you to be an exclusive contributor… if you want a plus. It could be a solution for a well established iStocker with a large portfolio. For me, at the moment, it's not practicable.
Cheers,
roberto
